Interested to know what shunt current you ended up at. Mine currently rest at 1A.

Here's a little jfet boz I quickly slapped up together. I think I should use a shielded cable on the input. I'm going to use an external battery pack (2x 9v).

Merlin - That looks nice! I like the small case.

The batteries should work well, and at some future point you could always whip up a regulated supply for comparison.
