1.5mm diammeter wire (or area of 2.5mm^2) is good for about 20A, or possibly higher if it has silicone or teflon insulation.
So you should be ok with that.

Hi Tosh

I'm not sure if it was this thread but the info appears here too.

Using CAT5 as speaker wire

I apologise if I have misunderstood. I've changed the cables now so it doesn't really matter.
