Pictures of your diy Pass amplifier

Hey Everyone

Love this site and especially this pass dedicated category. I had a couple Thule amps that I just didn't want to repair. class G type 5 channel. the amps sounded amazing when they were young but some underrated supply caps and other stuff caused them both to die an early death. I decided to reuse as much of them as possible to build a pair of M2x mono's.

the transformer had way too much voltage so I ran the primary's in series to get 19-0-19 volts AC. I used the pi design on the filter supply and with no draw it came out to only 1 mV of ripple! I have lots of those hard to get fets in another project I just could never get to work properly so I just pulled a couple out.

The amps are done and tested on my bench, I plan on putting them in my stereo next weekend. I think in total I spent about $250 CAD on building them if you don't count all the stuff I already had. the output looks really clean and there is only 1 mV of ripple on the output with no signal applied. that's nice and quiet for my speakers which are about 94 dB efficient.

There are 2 sets of outputs, one for full range and the other >60Hz

Some pics

enjoy
Nice work. What is that capacitor at the back for? Ground loop?

I converted my “Tallboy” Mini J to F5. New tranny. New caps (my frugality buying 25V caps cost me more in the end), and “upcycled” boards from Jim “6L6”. Wired, biased, warmed up, tweaked bias, tested with speakers. This evening I will put my 2 F5’s in my active system and finally hear them for real. The cheap sacrificial Yamaha test speakers don’t compare to JBL hartsfields with a DEQX active setup.

I heard the rawson F5 on which I fixed the safety bits then lent to my buddy as I fixed up his rawson J monos. He fell in love. The F5 is now his.

I finished my 2nd F5. See previous post. After hours of warm up I’m into serious listening. Holy hell. I’m hearing things on favorite records I’ve never heard before. Coming from years of Aleph Mini J and recent J Mono / Mini J combo - F5 brings transparency and mighty grip on the bass. Amazing.

heres my Iron Pumpkin SE :)

It is not overly nicely made, old 1000 times used RCA plugs, weirdo cabeling etc, but i like the steel case. This preamp deserved something personal.
The thing i learned (mechanically) ,is, degrease metal with aceton before painting, not washing gaz, that´s not enough.

The signal cabeling is almost ideologically thin : ), hair like predrilled signal cable (to feed LEDs in mikro toy railways.

Soundwise i´m superhappy. Depth, Stage, dynamics all there. But it is to early to tell more. I need a while and checking back to old equipment makes it more clear.
And it is my first build with the function written beside the knob, my girlfriend is happy too : )

happybest and ZM of course, manythanks for the great kit!
