Hi Everybody,
I am designing my power amp and I was thinking on using IRFP240 and IRFP9240 because they have nice specs, and they are really robust and have a nice strong SOA. The only problem is that, unfortunately, as many of you already know, the 9240's by IRF is not so linear. Therefore I am looking for the 9240 by Fairchild. Is there any advice on where to find this part at a good price point? I've been looking but without too much luck till now. I will keep reasearching in the meantime, hoping to find something. Thank you for your attention.

You want the FQ series, such as the FQA12P20.

Do you use the IRF for the N-ch and Fairchild only for the P or both Fairchild is better for you?
thanks.

I probably shouldn't do this, I was gonna buy them myself, but there are exactly 88 brand-new FQA12P20 devices available at Newark. There would be 100, but I got a dozen last month. The FQA19N20C is unobtanium anywhere.
I do think I have read that it is OK to use IRFP240/FQA12P20 together, that is what I was planning to do - anyone have objections?? |

Have you look close enough? I am sure you can find the unobtainable part
But my question than is: is the FQA19N20C better than the IRFP240? Either way having two different cases for the devices on the output stage wouldn't look too attractive to me

I have looked at eBay, Digi-key, Mouser, and Newark. The only availability I found at all was on this board - and too pricey for me at the moment.
I got 2 9240's from Mouser and 12 FQA12P20's from Newark. At the moment, I gotta be happy with what I have, no more parts money for awhile....

I would like a definitive answer to this question myself as I have no FQA N devices, but could finish my amp with 240/12P20 combos or 240/9240. |
