Why not burn a cdr on your computer instead and replay it through your hifi's cdp maybe? Should be more standard to compare since those source files are wav even. Burn at relatively low write speed.

My cdp is dated Pioneer DVDP DV-360-S (Archived) - Pioneer UK, but why not? I'll see if it brings out more difference.

I listened with headphones - some inexpensive JHAudio custom in ear.
Certainly I can hear differences between each.

I really like the Denon DS-1 and the Grado Reference Sonata. Too bad they were not more affordable carts.

As I said, it could be my ears. Nothing to be sad about, that saves me from spending big bucks.

In the end, enjoying your music is what it's all about. If for instance an AT95e does the trick for you, that's perfectly fine. Saves you money to buy more vinyl... Once you've reached a certain quality level, the returns on investment (sound-quality wise) will be diminishing.

One more thing: the Pearl II is a better phono stage than the Project phono box 2 SE that he used to make these files. So differences between carts may be more pronounced.

Nothing wrong with the AT95E... It's a very competent cartridge.

Indeed, the AT95e is an amazing value cartridge. I had one and was surprised that the improvement in sound quality with the Goldring Elite was smaller than expected. No wonder it has been on the market for so long.

Finally after 18 months I'm getting somewhere with my pearl 2 .
I have a clear signal out of one channel using the balance control ,but when I turn all the way to the left channel I get a distorted ,but audio signal out of the right channel .

This only happens with my phono. Any ideas or similar experiences ?

Voltages are within spec .

Rich

Swap input leads to start, make sure it isn't your cartridge.

Check voltages everywhere, again...
