In the F5 manual there are some amplifier examples. In figure 3 there's a Common Source preamp and power amp. According to Nelson: "You can build both of these circuits and they will work." While I don't doubt they will work, can anyone who actually built the preamp tell something about how it sounds and if it was worth the trouble? Could the preamp be used in front of the F5?

While I have not built that circuit, it is a classic. You will find variations of it commonly used by guitarists and called Fet Boosters.
