I think I had read somewhere that the HD650 headphones can be connected directly to a preamp's output (where you would normally connect to a power amp).
Was I imagining this? I have an X2 which has an extra output so if what I read was true, I could just build an adapter to connect directly to the preamp negating the purchase of a headphone amp. Thanks for any comments on this. Last edited by TwangBar; 3rd October 2009 at 05:25 PM. |

300 Ohm impedance, 103dB/V (rms)
Preamps are generally designed to drive loads of 10K or higher. Your head phones are 300 Ohms. Yes It will work, but you definitely won't be getting the best out of them. Why don't you build an amp for it.
