Anybody else who could comment.....?

Of course I do not have in this way connecting the two 2SJ109 the guaranteed
VGS1-Vgs2 < 20mV....

Any other disadvantage?

of course that superduper matched are the best

but , if you don't have them so tightly , that trick is more than useful

sometimes an offset of 300mV gives the tight mixture of k2 and k3 you only have to get the offset away again and to keep the distortion spectra....

Very true. From my listening experience with my different J2 attempts and original J2,

the original J2 is extremely fine-tuned to just add the right proportion of 2nd harmonics without shading any details in mid and high frequencies.
Like in tube amp times, 'voicing' an amp by fine-tuning parts values is the art, that will lead the way to the original j2 sound.

J2 and M2 on the block for me. Tah will leave me with F6, J2 and M2. Terrible choices to have to make.
