I wasn't specifically picking on mechanics, I've met more pathetic doctors than mechanics.

In Australia tradesman/craftsman earn more money than people with PhD's.
Specifically Plumbers, and Electricians.

I don't recall Nelson publishing a speaker protection circuit in any of his firstwatt or BA articles, so obviously Nelson thinks we are all of the rare breed type.

With Charles Bronson a goner, you'd have to ask Jason Statham these days.

Sorry jacco I am one of those weird people.
I just got to fully explain why I don't like the ananlogy.

A car without brakes is seriously hampered. There is no way you could win a british touring car race without brakes. Races are often won depending on the condition/performance of the brakes.
On a car, brakes affect the performance of the car as much as they are used for safety.
I'm not sure I could say the same thing about a speaker protection circuit, which is purely for protecting the speaker. It is basically never being used unless there is something fundamentally wrong with the amp which trips it into action.
However while driving a car the brakes are used just as much as the accelerator pedal in the process of driving.

I would probably also say that the mechanic who drove the car without brakes was also a fool. I know what it is like to drive a Truck with a heavy load without brakes and I don't recommend the experience to anyone.

With speaker protection circuitry I am quite happy not to use it, as are many other people. If you asked the same group of people or any group of people whether they would be happy to drive a car on public roads without brakes, I don't think you would be finding too many happy people.

I think that covers it without rambling on too much.

Just so there is no confusion. I have no problem with speaker protection circuits. It is basically a personal choice, and I choose not to use them.

Two 400mm lengths of these heatsinks should do for a mono amp.

Heatsinks: 9000 Series - 9740HS

Thats a burning amp
Now that's what I call an amp.
I would be using bigger transformers though, 1.5kVa per channel minimum. Since you have gone past the point of no return you may as well make them 3kVA per channel.
This is one serious amp. I reckon it might just wipe the floor with nearly anything at the BA festival. I hope you go ahead with it.

I'm a little bit worried you may not effectively dissipate 700W with those heatsinks.
You should easily do 600W though.
You will find out when you get them.
Go go go gooooooo.

Now that's a beast of an amp; that power dissipation per fet is not for the faint of heart

Looking forward to see pictures! Hannes
