Sounds like a cascode is popular... I wouldn't mind adding it. Anyone against?

It has been a while since last I looked at the schematics, but after refreshing my memory it kinda makes less sense to spend too much effort on doing a cascoded version. Having previously played around with the diff pair on the aleph j, I would say that we would probably not hit the sweet spot or even the DC stable spot in our first attempt, if we decide to cascode the input, and it is not as simple as with the F5 - it can be done, but the design will be approaching an opamp.
Furthermore, the whole idea behind the Burning Amps is that we get some really nice general purpose output stages to play around with, and this frontend is just the beginning - but what a beginning!

Ok no worries
For those that would like to try a higher powered version (eg +/- 40V rails) of the BA2, would we be best off using irf9610 (like on Aleph 30) or would we be best served by using bipolars like 2sa970 at the input? Last edited by Melon Head; 11th December 2009 at 08:47 AM. |

Nelson said to Cascode the differential pair, so I’m staying with the 2sj109 and will fix the voltage on the cascode devise at ~15V for 40v rails, I guess we can cut traces on the board to make it fit. This is a hobby
