What is that mean? BG N better or MKP better? I think an elco is an elco, distortion always appear, am I wrong?

Where you don't need the many uF and the space is OK to fit, a film is inherently better. Especially film & foil.

indeed salas, but no-one ever believes me when I say this, so much so that I have given up trying. so many people seem to think that BG is magic electro and is even better for bypassing than films, even in digital circuits in dacs and power supply bypassing in digital circuits, BG is good anywhere it seems and they defy the rules of physics. IMO mundorf M-lytic are better than blackgate anyway if you must have an electro. but super E will take all comers so i'm told hehe
I much prefer evox/rifa or wima PET/PPS to vishay MKP, but vishay are also good |

I'm busy at work photographing my build of the dcb1 - ill post full details in a day or so. I've also decided to send it out to a reviewer for a proper hifi type review. I think this would be most useful down the line a bit for those trying to decide what preamp to build. Just look at how many of us have looked at the f5 review on 6moons....
So more in a day or so.....

I just checked my Voltages at the R1 p.s. locations. The plus supply is exactly at 2.0 V. However, the minus is slightly out of spec at 2.55 V. It's only 0.25V off and I'm wondering if it's anything to really worry about. DC offset is under 5mV and supplies are +10.7, -10, so everything else looks good.
Should I be concerned? |

Yes, indeed it is. Myself and few buddies put the site together for fun so we are only in the early days yet... be gentle with us!! (The story behind it is that we had a local forum hosted by a hifi retailer who fairly unceremoniously dumped the forum with no warning, so we decided to go independent with the forum and the review site followed on from that)
The idea is that we will review both equipment and music - maybe host a few podcasts etc etc. One of my ideas is that I would like to send out some of the DIY designs we see here for a review by a non-DIYer, but someone who is an experienced listener. That way we can get a pretty unbiased review of the trus sonic worth of some of the designs available here. Very often I see reports here (and elsewhere - classic place for this is headfi!) of "oh wow this XXX amp sounds sooooo gooood" then read on to see "I can't believe how good my 128kbps files sound through this thing". I would like to aim these things a bit higher, reviewed against a better benchmark. For example if you read the review of the BlacksheepKables speaker cable, the reviewer uses Wadia, Kharma, Kubala Sosna etc etc etc. Now you and I might think that such equipment is hyped beyond its value, but it does generally serve as an excellent benchmark. Despite all the hocus-pocus bullsh!t written over at 6moons, I found the review of the F5 useful when trying to decide whether to build it or not. Anyway, thats my idea and this DCB1 will be a kind of test bed for it. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts, but don't want to go to OT in this thread.... Fran
