Couple of days ago, I had a talk with an American guy who went early retirement at age 47 on a 48" catamaran yacht.

Tom is now 63, spent the last 12 YEARS on his boat IN the Curacao drydock.
He lost a lot of his cash on the stock market, no money to have a major refit done on his ~30 year old GRP yacht, no expertise to do it properly himself.
(his 36 year old girlfriend, picked up in Venezuela at age 20 and adventurous, now spends her time on the web 24/7, pumpin herself up to jump ship)

Aka plenty of marooned suckers to skin for a consultant who does know boats from A to Z.

(did I say FCK ipads already ? If not, FCK ipads !)

Dear Jacco,
I am glad you enjoy the warm weather by the water. Somehow I hope you are not thinking of solving that guy's both issues? Hmm... I mean "helping" him with boat and girlfriend? Just thinking... that might end up as too easy for the guy to be without any problem, or too complicated for you... possibly. Haha, enjoy!

Too young, they still have emotional problems at that age.

Pretty woman, and Pretty unhappy.
He doesn't want to marry her, she has had enough of living on a boat (and in a drydock), prefers to go live ashore.

On the other hand, Pretty passive.
She has plans to acquire the Dutch nationality (could be a recent development), primary requirement is that she learns to speak Cheese.
She's been on the island for 12 years in a row : still doesn't speak a word of Dutchki, and only a handfull of tourist grade words in the native lingo Papiamentu (though us waterworld folks with gills prefer to vision it as PortuGreek).

Duuuuuuuuuuh !

What she does is sit at a PC all day, arguing on some or every environmentalist forum about whatever comes up.
Eeeh, sorta like some corners of this place.
(let's do a quick check : hands up who lives in a drydock )

(I gathered from her that Venezuelans are very much into high carbs and beans, Spanish speaking folks with excess belly abroad are in 9 out of 10 cases from Venezuela)
