shunt PSU and output device

Hi everybody,

i am about to choose the parts for the shunt PSU.
I have been running a prototype using IRF610/9610 since i didn't have any other device at hand.
The noise performance after several tweaking are extremely good (i measured 40uV pk-pk of output noise).

I would like to use a TO-247 output device and i was thinking on the IRFP240 and its complementary but i am not sure if these device properly fit PSU application or not.

I don't know if anybody has some good tip on an output device for this design. i would like to run a 500mA at 30V shunt PSU thus a dissipation of about 15W.

Any advice is really appreciated.

there is a nice project on shunts that could be modified for your purposes, I think.
