hi all
i would like to build a nelson pass amplifier
it must be ballanced and will need 100w or more
to run some active 2/ways which use a eton 12' hexacone for bass and a manger transducer for mid/high

i'm using a hypex ucd 400hg for bass so the pass amp will only be driving the mangers

i'm after the sweetest class a amp i can get

i'd like some reccomendations including where to get the boards and parts

thanks for any help/advice in advance

cheers

Hi i seen one board on that site that has 45v -v and 45v v+ i got a transformer that produces 43 volts at it secondary without any caps this is with transformer alone. is the 45v amp board suitable for me.

Thank You

Boards would work fine. PSU made with your trensformer would have cca 60V (without load) and cca 55V with load. If this transformer is powerful enough and if you put CRC or (CLC) filter in PSU you can build Aleph 4.

hi all,
do not worry, this is a good quality pcb.
the pass amps are very good amps!!! so you can go ahead and start.
we are here to help, think how to dissipate the heat, is very important for the long life of the amp.
use good metal case to hold the heavy trafo and caps.
good luck!!!
Best regards
Williams

Please note that the kk fellow is not well thought of by all, as he appears to be making a profit off of Nelson's work. This isn't good. His 'support' record is spotty at best. If you search here at DIY, you will find numerous instances where he has sold boards, then left the buyer sitting high and dry when it comes to questions.
If you buy from kk, you are incurring bad karma that you'll have to work off in your next life. Hard to do if you come back as a slug.
Water cooling works just fine. I've been doing it for years. There is at least one other thread active at present discussing water cooling.

hi,
'GRollins' dear audiophile,
never built an amp by 'karma' i think we are building by hands and with components and most of it with open mind. if the pcbs are cost effective then you can ask kk pcb to send you a more detailed info about lay out and the pcb connections.
if are better pcbs in us or at your location then go ahead, i only want to help audio amateurs i have none profit from kk pcb!!!!
best regards

About KK PCB service.

As far as I have info, Nelson Pass knows about this site.
It is by one member of www.diyaudio.com
Think Nelson has decided after talk with website owner,
that he can go on and provide some 'non-profit' service to the Diy Community of the world.
If I am wrong, Mr Pass may correct me, as soon as possible.

Not all diy memebers have pcb creation machines at home.
They have to ask for help from kind people to send PCB, for no-profit prices.
Kind & friendly Member Nordic from south-africa
is just one of these many that are willing to help with some PCB designs & making.
We have BrianGT & Peter Daniel etc. etc.

Many Diy members are low on money.
They can be young students or just older living under low money circumstances.
Me self, Lineup, is one early retired. Have not much money to keep life going.
This is why I have to think twice before spend my little money.

hi,
well done ‘line up' i like your reply.
about heat sink fabricated from motor cycle engines is a smart and practical idea if you can cut some surfaces flat for the pwr transistors, from other point of view you can use smaller heat sinks and add a blower for forced ventilation.

has anyone tried the motor bike engine heatsinks to cool thier amps?.
They should easily get rid of heat.

Have had the thought, yes :)

Now there are other 'heatsinks' we normally use for other things.
- Like electrical room heaters
- Like car engine coolers
Anything built out of copper / aluminium that is
built for radiate heat
or transport away heat
are possible candidates for cooling audio amplifiers.

And then we have the PC cooling gears.
CPU processors and Graphics processors working at several GHz produce tremendous heat.

The highest speed computers have special arrangements.
If I am not wrong, some use very cold substances, like liquid gas,
for cooling, to several 100 degrees below the freezing point

It is just a matter of your idea of how to adjust these implementations for electronics cooling.
And to find a practical solution for this.
