Last Advice

I have one channel ready to be assembled and plugged into the electricity. Any advice? The toroid is 1KVA at 31-0-31-0. Caps filtration at 22,000 x 6. Should I put inductors on the rail or resistor will do (which value of the resistor should I use?)? I hope I won't see any smoke when I turned it on. Thanks.

Hi,

nice monster, it looks like the mine you can see it on this forum.
For the power rails I use 0,2 ohm not inductive resistances on each rail after the first capacitors, that makes a cut off filter for frequency over 100hz, you will loose 1,6 volts on the supply if you are using one transfomer for the both channel on a Aleph30 (I don't know wich Aleph you are building).
Another idea is to separate the ground rails until the end like this

gnd+---------------------
] gnd out, here you connect the wire
gnd- ---------------------
- --------------------- - out
it is better to do it this way, so you have a good gnd reference without fluctuations
And the last, separate the gnd wire for the pcb board, one wire for the high current and an another one for the entry level, on my PCB I have separated the gnd for these two level and they are only connected on the common gnd out point.

what are the minimum requierements when looking
for a variac?

like... a minimum 10 amp output?

An alternative to variac: thermistors. Carefully placed between the caps. Like Nelson did in the XA200...

Also, do yourself a favor, don't break any taps. On the 23rd hole for the 23rd output mosfet you'll feel like punching your way through, resist it or you'll be

Finally, I connect everything and turn it on. Only one channel that is working now, still waiting for more additional heatsink for the other channel. My 1st impression of the amp was it sure really hot. I do not have the temp mesarument device yet, perhaps the coming monday. Sound wise, this amp open up my eyes (ears actually). Sound coming out from my BW 602 is much more defined and set loose with out anything in between. Could not wait for the other channel to be completed.
