Guitar Amp

I was thinking of making one of my Aleph 5 monoblocks a guitar amp. Has anybody done this ?

I think that would make a great guitar-sound.
Pass amplifiers should be soundwise very suitable for
amp of musical instrument. Judging from what I have heard about them.

You would need to put a buffer or adjust the input impedance
to fit the output of your guitar.
If you use some preamp, in between, you might not need it.

Then there is not much more you need to change,
as I can see it.
But let's hear what the Pass-Guys say,
and the other guitarists.

/halo - thinks music instruments would be perfect combo with several Pass Amps.

I soon wanna try exactly this with a Zen amp.
Just which circuit will fulfill all the needs for the preamp?
It´d be cool to combine it with a tube preamp.
No need for hifi so I´d go low voltage.
Implement some distortion circuitry and then I´m gonna annoy some neighbours with it.

Does anybody know such preamp circuit?
Unfortunately I´m a complete newbie to tubes.
Wish I was born a little earlier.

I have thought that the zen might make a good amp for
acoustic guitar, because with acoustic guitar you want more
of a faithful HIFI production of sound. With electric guitar the distortion
built into the design is usually what makes great amps.
The best guitar amps are usually tubed, but if your gonna use
transistors, the Pass designs might be a good alternative.
Please let us know how it works out.

I was thinking of doing something similar with the zenlight run non-balanced. It would have a low damping factor like a tube amp, and the distortion should be inline with a tube amp. I would be implementing a circuit to introduce some sag into the voltage rails proportional to signal level. That dynamic envelope is an important part of the electric guitar sound, and is a big part of the reason why people love tube amps. I don't think it would replace a good tube amp with a vacuum tube regulator, but it may have a unique sound.

thanks for all the suggestions and ideas.
this will be only an experiment cause I have an old music man amp myself which is hard to top.

but you´re right: it´s probably best for acoustic or clean jazzy sounds.
a tube in front could probably do some magic to the sound!?
