It looks like a good amp.

Well . . . the new SCM7 has SPL of 84dB/W/m. So, it¡¯s a typical modern speaker having the low SPL, and it will be hard to expect very loud sound through them. Actually, I just want maximum SPL in my listening level of about 90dB/W/m from these speakers. For this, I might need about 4W from the power amp, which is converted into 0.7A. But, more currents than 0.7A might occur occasionally due to the unknown speaker impedance dips. Anyhow, the 0.7A is considered assuming the steady impedance of 8 ohms which is as claimed by ATC. If the assumption is not far from the real, I could try any Zen (with Aleph CS) relatives having enough size of power supply capacitors.

By the way, the mid/bass corn of SCM7 seems to have heavy mass so that the sealed box arrangement might provide better mechanical damping. Nevertheless, I might have to consider an amp of high damping factor. In addition, as there must be impedance variation with the frequency, the amp¡¯s damping factor might have to be considered important also to get the smooth frequency response from the speakers. I¡¯m going to start with the damping factor of about 20 . . .

Hope my thinking is on the track and would work . . .

Before I want to see Papa's diy power amps,
here is the music source.
I always turn off the display window light of the cd player
because I get more focused edges of the sounds.
And, here are music CDs that I want to listen:

- jenifer warnes, The Hunter
- Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
- Carl Orff, Carmina Burana

Babo Zen (Papa's Zen5 with input jfets) is connected to the
babies for the first trial. First impression of the sound is that the
size of the babies is small, but the size of sound is big.

I have two differently characterised headphones:
Alessandro (Grado Labs) and Sennheiser HD600.
The sound of the babies has the character of Alessandro.

I could't have serious listening yet. Instead, we tried sound tracks
of DVDs, iRobot, and Lost, first season, episodes 1-4.
Wow! The bass sound is very tight and go down deeply.
The bass sound is much deeper than I expected.
DH (my 1st son) says that the sound is very natural, and
nice.

I biased Babo Zen with about 1.3A, and I expect that its damping
factor must be inbetween 8-20 (I will measure this tomorrow).
Volume knob of the pre was 1/3rd up during the watching the
DVDs. I tried the volume more up without feeling any distortion
of the babies . . . Babo Zen empowers the babies very well.
I don't feel any lack of power.

From the photo, you can see my pre and Babo Zen . . .

Both . . . Babo Zen and X-Zen V2 drive the babies really well.
As the babies are compact sizes with closed enclosures, I don't
hear any boomy sound at all. Clarity and details are very good
in the whole frequency band. Each musical instrument is tightly
tuned, and all together richly shine as a whole. The voices are
great even if I hear a bit "s" occationally. The musical dynamics
also very good.

Both Babo Zen and X-Zen V2 do not make my ears fatigued.

I don't want to say that the bass is much in quantity from these
compact babies. Nevertheless, the bass quality comes to my
happy satisfaction. There is no muddy, boomy, loose. The kick
drum and electrical bass are tight and clear with good punchy.

If you ask me which amp is better between Babo Zen and X-Zen
V2, hmmmmmmmmm . . . very good question . . . I would vote
Babo Zen. But, X-Zen V2 has the same good value. I am going
to drive the babies with X-Zen V2.

The photo shows X-Zen V2. I am listening not with the balanced
input, but with the unbalanced RCA input . . .

Yeah, does Otto tingle your Muladhara Chakra or is it a pain in the A*s ?

The CD is not the best recording . . .

Of course, all are scaled down to these babies, but without
scrificing any musical notes . . . I'd like to say so . . .
I can imagine the original full stage without any particular effort.

The orchestral richness altogether with the corus appears
back and forth, well supporting the solo violin, brass, woodwind
and solo voices . . . The soloists are quite individuals calling from
within a huge crowd.

Babo Zen (Zen V5 w. Jfet inputs) puses out tutti of ff into the
empty air, richly and definitely. The construction of the tutti
does not collapses.

Mmm . . . I have a problem. Real problem! My wife says: "Ho . . .
the speaker sound seems to be independent of the size . . ."
I know what she means. She means that SCM7 sounds very
good while she forcefully implies removal of the big J-Low.
Shiiitttt . . . What I should do . . .

logical solution - change a wife

even better - get rid of womans completely

:devilr:

we know what's more important - woman or man's passion .......
