Thanks for the links....it was meant as a joke though....I find it hard to find a reason for microwave absorbers in audio equipment, let alone power chords in general.

My powerchords are of the run of the mill type.....they do an excellent job, they actually conduct power from the wall outlet to the equipment

Hi Magura,

I don't mind , I know it's a joke , it's too bad that people incorporate some kind of filtering and call it "powercord", I also used to object to this idea of "powercord" as a tweak, but powercord is one of the good place to put them, because it's long. And RFI/Microwave (any kind of interference) is hard to tackle using only discrete components, Ferrite is also not a good idea for audio, so long power cord in this case have advantage, and the filtering mode is "distributed", instead of lumped at the end. Tektronix even have scope probe cable with distributed resistance to reduce reflection/resonance.

power transformer and supply capacitor sometimes unable to do this filtering correctly, since they have their esl, esr, winding to winding capacitance. if those kind of filtering is done inside the amp/supply box it would take a lot of space, and might not be as effective.

Cheers,
Hartono

So what you're saying is that there is actually a reasonable excuse for this stuff ?

unfortunately......................yes. but many didn't do anything, finding the one that works is the hard one. If we already have an idea how to do this filtering via power cord, then we can see their construction, and materials, many powercords do nothing in this regard, but some does. Don't ask me what brand though....I didn't check on them that much, still have other better things to do.

PS: longer is better
