Smile Need electronic for my speakers - Please help

Hello everybody!

I'm back! - well, not that anybody would have missed me but for me its like picking up where i've left of - 4 years ago.
Back then I was building my two Aleph 5 monoblocks. But after I moved to the states I found no time to finish them, or start something new. Now, I'm back. Not just in good old europe but also here at the diy forums. And I'm quite amazed by how much has changed.

OK, enough with the storytelling. This is what I need your help with:

My kind of fixed point at this time are my speakers. The "flatline" with peerless chassis. (http://www.lautsprechershop.de/hifi/bau_flat.htm) I like them and I haven't had an amp to properly drive them. Their "flatness" down to the very end I like a lot.

I also own PCB's for the "Balanced Line Stage". And on top of that PCB's for The Ono Phono Preamp. I do have a Pro-ject turn table and I have to find a decent CD Player (maybe build a DAC converter?)

Now, before I start building all that (and for that matter finish the Aleph5's) my question:

With the spec of my speakers would you do any different??

I want a puristic, clean 2 channel system for a CD Player and a turn table for jazz, classic, r&b and vocals

How about the First watt amplifiers??? The F4??? Another line stage?? Active cross overs?? Drive every driver separately??

I know, it's all a matter of taste, but I wanna do good (very good)
Oh, and Mr. Pass: Thank you for your contribution to this world. What's in you living room?

Thank you for reading!
Martin

If you have most of the parts for Aleph 5s, why not go with them? Or if you're not sure, build the power supply separately and you can change to a different amplifier later that uses the same supply.

well, the amp is just one part...
pre amp...phono...cross overs

and I forgot to mention: I'd rather have a couple small things (in terms of blowing in my face) than those huge power amps.

makes sense?

if you solved that issues (in your head) then you can tell us which amount of PassWatts you need ;
then you (we) can choose rest

with "level" I meant on how loud you like to listen ;

anyway- with room of 40m^2 , and spks with just 82db/W/m ,(and just 8" bass units) I mean that you are in trouble; they can't be anywhere near normal needs .

going in room of 40 sqm with just 8" is possible only if you use horns.
at least in my book.

or you have another option- put these units ( if you have them already) in smaller box and use bass augmentation,at least with potent 10".

I like my speakers...

they might not be the best around but I'm willing to accept that (for now).
I can probably live with them for now, it can only get better, right?

Levels are not too loud, like you would hear Keith Jarrett from the Balcony at Carnegie

Thanks!

so- if I understood you correctly- you want Pass amplification,but not too big boxes........ ?

in that case- mebbe is best option to make F4 ,for which you need just little more potent preamp ;

this way you'll have plenty passwatts , little less dissipation than usual for other Papa's amps (that means smaller sinx-smaller box) .

later you can add some mean 15" bsrdz for bass augmentation.......not necessarily to have more bass,but to free your main boxes of low bass duty.
then you can use F4 for bass driving,and make something more romantic for main boxes.......some Fx or Babelfish ...or real Aleph J,presuming that servman for it will be soon downloadable .

feel free to ask more.......I'm pretty sure that someone will try to help you,or confuse you even more

btw , I like this clarification:

hehe...i like that...confusion...

how about that: i build 2 F4's and use them to drive my speakers. --> one channel for each driver. plus an active x-over to optimally adjust them to the drivers. well, as good as possible for now.

now my second question (don't beat me):

if there is no voltage amplification in the F4 I still need to up voltage for the F4 input, right? So where is the advantage?? I have to do it somewhere, if in the line stage or in the power amp...

and finally, whats a good line stage for the F4?

lots of questions, need answers!
