Why bother with a Pass preamp when you want a Marantz preamp?

Wonderful. The Aleph P is very transparent, smooth and dynamic. Just like an Aleph power amp. You will have nothing left to be desired ...

As far as I understand HDAM acronym on Marantz products refers to a discreet buffer added to the output audio section of CD players to lower output impedance which is certainly a good thing. And they may use this *technology* buffers in other products to do similar duties or up the input impedance say on amps. Pass preamps are quite transparent and they should work well with Marantz gear and you will certainly enjoy the *Marantz* music through a well setup system that includes a Pass preamp, this is done every day all over the world. There is no need to add a buffer to the output of a Pass preamp if the input impedance of the amplifier you will be using is at least 20K Ohms or higher. |

If you are using an original P 1.7 you don’t need a buffer since the output impedance will be between 0 and 800 Ohms.
Now if you are building a clone that’s a different matter all together and mainly will depend on how you implement the attenuator. Most of the clones I have seen around have not been done correctly and appear to have high output impedance. I would suggest you read the BOSOZ preamp from the Pass DIY site in order to get a gasp on this. |
