Hi all,
After lining up my PCB purchase for the Aleph 2 (thanks Dale!), I'm planning on getting my components to populate them. Of course, all of the electronics companies offer some pretty steep quantity discounts. I did some calculating, and the cost for all the components for two channels will be $548.50 for everything on the parts list:

This is $274.25 per amp. If we could get 5 people to go together for a total of 10 amps, we can save $23 per amp! If we could actually get a total of 26 amps, we could save $45 per amp. Of course, a higher quantity would increase the savings, but that seems unlikely. Is anyone interested in participating in this kind of buy?

Let me know if you are interested...

Also, does anyone have a good line on heatsinks?

BTW, item 15, the Orange drop caps, are from Mouser, not digikey.

Still by far the best deal on heatsinks will be had from M&M Metals in Texas. I still can't figure out why all those Aleph X guys ordered them from R-Theta???????

Go to www.mmmetals.com and take a look. Pick out your everyday flat side sink large enough for the Aleph 2..... Then contact them for a quote and you'll see what I mean. They will also anodize (many colors available), or drill them already for you to a set of specs. I can only imagine that a large order will only bring them down even more. The sinks I used were the MM5061 high power sinks. Most would probably NOT want to go this route as it requires hand wairing the parts to the sinks. even though mine cost me 21.00 each and each amp used 6 of them I offset the total as I was able to get new surplus capacitors.........56,000@63 volts for 10 bucks each...... My total cost was still within what you guys are looking at!! With the MM5061 sinks, my amps slightly overbiased at about .55 volts instead of .50, they run hot to the touch but not too hot that you can't hold your hands on them as long as you want to.
I think Ra-Elco In Salt Lake City has more of those 56,000 mfd-63 volt caps left if anyone is interested........801-487-7749

Here are a few cool sinks they produce.....

This is the sink I used.....cut to 6" long each sink was $21.00 each unanodized!!

This one is a bit more expensive......

a group purchase for parts? what a great idea! but i've already started my parts search... will u be doing the matching for those FETs? it will be very nice of u to do that too. what if i only need all the resistors and caps(exclude 20000uf)? including all trans and diodes if u do matching;) will u count me in? i'm also planning to get 2 x (2 x 37V secondary, 230V primary, 1KVA) toroids(any brands). if u can get them for me cheaper i won't mind  as for heatsinks... Fischer and Seifert do have some very cool heatsinks. i personally prefer these two:

Fischer SK-479
and
Seifert KL-273

2 pcs per monoblock cut to 200mm in length will be perfect for me :)

actually i did started a thread about my needs at http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10097

and also another about my caps at http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10200

still waiting for some helpful souls... :(
