Hi all! I am new in this forum. I wish to build PASS Aleph 5 and preamplifier. But in my country is not possible to find IRF9610. Here are avalable other types - IRF9620, 30, 40. The question is: What type to use (for Aleph5, and for AlephP1.7) ? It is possible?
Thank you in advance! |

You can try the 9620, but stay away from the higher numbered ones as they are not intended as linear devices. 9510 if available should also work well. Indeed IRF recommended to me that their parts were not qualified for linear work at all which clearly must have been a misunderstanding on their part. Most people, however regard japanes semiconductors as much better for audio than others. Aim for a low-tech 200V (high voltage, low capacitance) low current device from Hitachi etc. or check if Zetex offers anything. You are only dissipating a few watts at most. Your search can start with devices that have high on-resistance (several ohms).
For the preamp, you could go with JFET's, for example 2SK170 or it's p-channel equivalent as long as you watch out for power consumption. Petter |
