I'm looking to start playing with simulations.
Is there a decent SPICE program for Windows that anyone would recommend? Ideally I like to find something free or inexpensive since I'm a noob. I'm particularly interested in simulating 2sk389 and 2sk170 Jfet parts. Thank you! -David |

Just grab a copy of LTSpice from the Linear Technology web site. They call it "SwitcherCAD" but everybody who uses it calls it LTSpice. It's free and has no circuit size limitations like some freeware simulators do.

Try Switcher CAD from Linear Technology. FREE, no limitations, etc. Doesn't come with those models so you will have to obtain them (sometimes from data sheet) and/or enter them yourself.
The intusoft manual has some info about tweaking JFET models that may be useful: http://www.i-t.com/download/intusoft/modlist.pdf I_F |

LTspice is excellent and very very very actively maintained by the author.
Support is either via sci.electronics.cad or via the highly active Yahoo! group, called, surprisingly, "ltspice"! The author hangs out in both those locations, as do a lot of other very knowledgeable & helpful professional engineers. FWIW, it understands Pspice formats, so can use almost any model out there.
