I have a transformer.....it puts out 5.00VAC and on the same wire 3.46VDC how does this work?

your transformer has more parts inside than just windings = possibly some diodes and maybe a chip and a capacitor or two ...

Some multi meters also have 'issues' with reading voltages properly.
the 5vac could be 'supply ripple'. the 3.46vdc could be measurement error of the meter. Load the plug pack with a small fillament bulb and then see what your meter says. (small bulb, say something like a 6v torch bulb) EDIT; if it is an actuall mains transformer with NO other components (diodes etc) then I garrentee your meters a cheap/nasty/faulty one) |
