Hi there, I just want to know if anyone member of this forum has information of how to get old or obsolete parts for audio amplifiers. I have an old Lafayette amplifier. The company was located in New Jersey and Radio Shack sold them. Its output IC is obsolete and I can find them anywhere. I think the number on it is S60W. They were 60 watts per channel.
Thanks in advance. |

Doing a Google search on the part number may bring up a source. I presume you've tried NTE/ECG for a substitute?
The best thing may be to adapt some current chip amp; it'll probably be cheaper and better quality. |

the best thing about some of the old Lafayette and Olson amps is the cabinet and power transformer -- unless you have some particular nostalgic affection I would suggest gutting the amp like a fish and just using the power supply trafo and chassis. i wouldn't even save the line cord.
