I just can't believe that most of the high end audio components manufacturers have such poor workmanship standards. Looks like everyone just concentrates on exterior looks and components and the electronic assembly inside is sub standard and often overlooked from properly populating SMT parts to wetting through-hole and wire terminating. For me the sum of it parts should equal the overall refinement of the art form.
Anyone here familar with IPC workmanship standards ? You guys would be helpful to spread our training to help make it better for the DIYers. |

everyone just concentrates on exterior looks and the ... inside is sub standard Great observation, EdT thanks for putting the spotlight to this Whether we talk audio or people and life style our society today is superficial - its very much about to make surface look nice. To generate big sales! This goes in music, too, where artist and artist image has become more important, than the stuff = the eventual quality of music. When I was young. When the rock and roll and pop era started it was a bit different the music & lyrics = The Songs, WERE MAIN thing. -------------------------------- Compare these: Quote:

- First is the current list (2006). - Second is one list from 1954, topped by song 'Three Coins In The Fountain, sung by Frankie Boy. We can notice at least two things difference: 1. Song - Artist has become 1. Artist - Song (Record Company) =============== Whatever most people do, audio, music and the marketing reflects what is general trends in our world. And money rules and big world ruling companies make final decisions for us. Those lists in plain simplicity reveal how society is. What is on the main agenda. ============================================== Three Levels: Classical Music - The Composer & Music is almost everything - the artist is mentioned. Mozart, Symphony in C-major performed by Some Orchestra. Popular music & songs some decades ago: - Song & Lyrics number one - Artist second. Popular music Today: - Artist number one - Album number two - Songs number three - and the album Producing Company is a vital information. ============================================== My comment: In Actual importance COMPANY IS THE NUMBER ONE & ONLY because they have all the power and money to do anything they find good for money. This is the slave contracts. But wouldn't look too good to publish lists, where COMPANY was rated as top of the pops in those lists. People might get confused, a little bit and maybe even annoyed - wouldn't be good for business. Would it? Original article by lineup that got a bit carried away from topic inspired by EdT great subject and question this topic but those mechanisms are the same, whether we talk about amplifier looks vs. contents The package vs. Quality of the stuff in the package.

I hear where you're coming from though. Problem is that many great designers are really ten thumbs at building the final product, or great builders could't design a paper airplane. It's an experienced or gifted person that can do both, IMO. |
