I've got 2nd hand diy cd player with this controller. It controls remote, display and the player. Any idea what it is and is it possible to modify the firmware?

I'd guess that it's a knock-off of some industry-standard microcontroller. If you troll through the long thread on CDROM controllers in the digital audio forum, you may recognize that kit, and find out more about it.
Googleing whatever identification is on the circuit board might help too. |
