Default Piezo Buzzers and Relays

Hello all, few quick questions I'd appreciate some help on.

I would like to use the signal from using a piezo buzzer to trigger a solid state relay once the signal has reached an arbitrary level. I know very little about electronics, but I am trying to use the piezo's as drum triggers to close circuits on a keyboard controller and send those key notes to a computer.

I actually think my problem is also similar to a previous post in this forum:
Driving a latching relay

My reasons are best explained by reading the posts at the end that outline this project and it's failures, but in short I'm trying to create a very cheap electronic drum set, using some flexible software as the drum controller.

My alternative method is to use a micro controller, but I'll have to throw away a good deal of code, bumble my way through learning some new API's and just generally extend the project's required time.

I appreciate your time, and would also appreciate pointing me in the direction of some good books or resources to learn some basic electronics skills and some beginner projects as well. My Chu Moy amp ended in a mess from my lack of knowledge, and I'm hung up on this project for the same reasons.

Thanks again.
