If you don't want to muck around with a vast number of resistors (icky and expensive) or a microcontroller and PGA2311 (who really wants to?), the next best option is an IC resistor ladder network, like the ones below.
http://www.semiconwell.com/r_net/swr2r.htm Availible with up to 48 positions, all you need is an appropriate rotary switch. As a rule of thumb, these are used for DACs, and are therefore made to insanely small tolerances. (And if it's good enough for Goldpoint's series attenuators, it has to be better without any of the messy soldering!) However, I can't figure out where on earth to get one. Ideas? |
