Default film caps and ripple current

does film caps have "ripple current rating"?

thank you.

Yes, they do, if they are intended for high current service.

say solen metallized polypros. are these suitable for high current applications? The spec I saw never mentioned anything about ripple current.

I also looked at auricap specs and didn't see anything about ripple current.

Most caps don't have it but since do you have a problem with that? This is only important in high freqeuncy/high power applications.

RIFA EVOX and Electronic Concecpt have this parameter. If you search here for "Electronic Concept" you will find the best capacitor in the world.

I do not understand what you meant. if I looked into an elcaps datasheet, most datasheet will tell me the ripple current rating for a particular model and value.

The films are usually rather small so in order to get large currents you must either have high voltage or high frequency or both.

If you plan to run 100 kHz square wave, 100 volts peak-peak then you will have to look at the power rating also.

If you check for instance an Electronic Concept capacitor you'll see a totally different building style with thick wires.

I get what you meant know. I thought you're talking about riva and EC elcaps.

thank you.

i'm still waiting for someone to put an Unlytic polyprop as an output cap on one of NPs creations.

Film caps normally has got problem with any currents.
Because they are only transfering very small currents
into for example 10 kohm resistors.

Instead of generally asking
you might as well tell us what construction you have in mind.
I am sure it is something interesting!

So we might be to try and quickly give a good answer to your stuff.

If not, I am afraid we may go on here for a couple of weeks
until somebody, by accident, happens to give an answer
that might suit your amplifier or mp3-player circuit.

lineup cant give a better advice, right now

bypass caps in on the output of a linear regulator. the regulator is supplying 2.5+A to the connected circuit.
