Master Volume pot on Ballanced Line.

I just want to put an aesy to acess master Volume control on a ballanced line signal going to a pair of powered monitors, because I am not running a mixer or anything.
Now I was about to jump right in and solder up a little thru box with a duel gang pot, when I thaught "Hang on! It's ballanced!"
what sort of conections should I make for passive variable attenuation to a ballanced line?

Get yourself a quad-ganged VR.

and then do put hot and cold on two seperate wipers, draining to ground?

makes sense.

Or just use a pair of more common 2-gang pots, one for left and one for right.

I guess Leolabs was suggesting the same as richie00boy but assuming a stereo balanced signal.
