I'm going to investegate this anyway but...............
I'm going ahead with mounting a pair of piezo sounders under the bridge of my 5 string bass as pickups. Now, they vary in size and resonant frequencies 9KHz at 12mm down to 2.8Khz at 35mm. Do you think it matters as long as I don't mix them ( or should I mix them? does bigger make more out put? I will post this on the talkbass forum but to be fair, most of us are bass players, not Electronic designers. |

Piezo sounders have a very high mechanical Q for high efficiency

Your frequency response will be very poor... something like the skyline of Paris; a big spike in the middle.

Sorry, but I don't follow you.
No reason not to try... unless you're going to take router and chisel to your bass! |

They're high Q when in their intended packaging, but when clamped between a bridge and body they're much lower Q.

I've used them as pickups, but tied directly to the strings..
They worked okay, and have a decent output, even into the lower freqs (this was a 4 string bass-guitar-type setup) I bought a bunch of the raw discs at the local surplus place,no plastic housings or anything like that around them. |

I tried it. It was ugly. With the elements between the body and bridge, it picked up as much body noise as string sound. Just stroking the neck was audible.
I will try the piezo idea again but I think I'll go for a factory bridge. No more playing arround. Baby has to work for a living! |
