fuse before AC switch?

I've read suggestions from other people saying to put the fuse before the AC switch.

any reason behind it?

Hi,
I would go along with fuse first.

That way anything downstream that goes faulty and draws excessive current is protected by the fuse. The fuse won't save the faulty component and probably not limit consequential damage either, but will stop the mains cable catching fire and worse.

There are some models of IEC inlet and inlet filters that are fused. They always (well nearly always-but I have never seen an example) have the fuse first.

I agree with AndrewT. The fuse should be the first termination point for the active mains connection. I always go to the fuse first, loop then solder the connection. I then go from the other side of the fuse to a terminal block and feed components from there.
