Question Audio Stream to Power amp on and off

I have had a look through this forum, but it's all pretty daunting and way out of my knowledge scope but .....

I'm wondering if anyone has seen a way to control the power to an amp via an audio stream?

My problem is that I have an old amp which still works perfectly well, but it doesn't have an auto off ability, and me, being lazy, want it to have the ability to turn on when an audio stream is sent to it, and off again when the stream stops.

Is this possible at all? I know there are newer amps which are able to do this.

I'm thinking of some sort of 'dongle' which the audio passes through to reach the line in on the amp, which also has a power plug built in for the amp to plug into.

Am I just being crazy stupid?

most sub plate amps seem to have that feature. the auto-on is the only tricky part........when a signal is detected (the part i'm not sure on), you'd "turn if on" via some method (i imagine a relay would be involed), and a cap would charge. you'd pick a cap such that in between input it would hold the relay until source again picks up, but not too big otherwise it would take ages to actually turn off.

i'm guessing this would be about right? somebody?

so the input source detection is somewhat trick i supposed, don't want to be introducing noise or distortion into the source of course. i'm also interested.
