I was wondering if any of you knew how I could build a "sleep" timer like on those cheap clock radios, you push a button the radio comes on and in 1/2 hour it goes off again. I was thinking of using a standard AC mechanical timer (for lights, etc.) but the clicky noise is awful. So I was wondering if any of you electronic guru's could design a circuit that I would put together?
Thanks, Lyle Gordon |

I want to build a sleep timer for a radio, that when a button is pushed it switches on a 110VAC current and then after a set amount of time (say 30 min) the voltage is switched off.
I was thinking of using this as a basis: http://www.qsl.net/7n3wvm/sleep_timer.html And then using a optically isolated triac driver and a triac to switch the AC current with the out put from that circuit. The problem is im not sure that is the best way to go about it nor do I know what type of triac and driver I should buy or if a normal relay would work. BTW I will also be powering the circuit with a transformer from the AC current. |

i've built a circuit that uses an IRF510 (commonly avaliable from radioshack) that when supplied with a momentairy positive input it will stay on for a period of time determend by either the value of a cap or resistor....if your intrested...i'm still working out the prototypes for a automatic stanbd shutoff for my amp
