Default What does "up" mean on Electrolytic Cap?

What does the "up" mean?

Can you use this laying on its side?

i have those exact capacitors, i recapped my Superscope receiver with them. they are Panasonic TS series caps. the UP means TSUP, which is a mini-can variety of the TS series. they are quite small for their capacitance and yes, i have them laying sideways

Hi lgreen,

Not unless you put the pcb on it's side also!

I think "up" is indicated because they don't fit underneath boards the way most are mounted. They are also harder to solder in on the solder side.

(I could have said that "up" is for shipping, you can ignore it.)

Nope, they are actually linked via quantum level hidden dimensions to the macrostructure of the entire universe and always unfailing point towards the universal south pole, (don't ask!), so when you move the cap, it actually is spinning the entire universe, and the cap remains stationary in space time. So whatever you do, don't put two at right angles, or the entire universe would undergo complete and utter existance failure due to confusion.

you guys are cruel.

TSUP seems plausible.
