Hi, not been on these forums for a while, but im starting a project, not audio im afraid, but i need some vintage wire, or at least vintage looking.
I need 20-22awg solid core coper wire with cloth/silk insulation. Anyone know where i can get some? UK prefered, but as long as they will ship to england it doesnt really matter. Thanx. |

Some music shops sell beautiful looking cloth/silk wire as interconnects for guitars->amps.
It might not be exactly what you are looking for but they might be able to help you. /Hugo |

partsconnexion has jupiter condenser 28awg cotton insulated hook-up wire. neither in the uk nor 20-22awg, but the only stuff like that i've seen recently. i suspect you could also make your own, though.

Antique Electronic Supply carries cloth covered wire for restoring old radios.
http://www.tubesandmore.com/ Go to the tech supplies page and look at the wire listings. I_F |

If you have a local 'period furnishing' shop, try there. The one near me has a good selection of vintage style silk and cotton covered wire and cable.

This guy sells all you may need although cryogenically treated wire may be overkill
The postage is high but can be changed to a cheaper method if you don't use Paypal (ie Postal orders etc) Unbleached cotton may be good for the vintage look Unbleached Cotton Tubing on Ebay

If you are interested in solid core silver, try Mike at Electrum audio (info@electrumaudio.com). He has a couple types/sizes of cotton insulated silver wire - all solid core and NONE are plated.
