Default TL064 substituted with TL084

Hello.

I've received an Guitar-pedal from a friend an found out that the Opamp was defect. So I changed a TL064-type with a TL084-type. The pedal now works fine, so my question is:

Is the 084 a suitable replacement for a 064?
Keep in mind that this things are powered by a 9V-Battery, so power consumption matters.

Thanks in advance for your help.

TL084 has higher power consumption, but less distortion. If that's the only active part in the unit, the battery will last maybe 6 to 8 times longer with the TL064. Other than that it should work fine.

Hi.

After telling him that he told me that he also could power it by 48V phantom power or wall wart, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for your info, paulb, helped me a lot.

edit:

Now I know, the number i have/had to look at is Iq.

TL064 Iq per channel(Max)(mA): 0.25

TL084 Iq per channel(Max)(mA): 2.8

Just for your/my information

what does the pedal do? if it is distortion or overdrive it will sound different than originally intended.

Hi.

It's an active DI-Box with Speakersimulation (RED BOX MK III, Hughes&Kettner), so the quad opamps are used as active filters.

If you are interested in such a schematic have a look here:
