These guys have info about good and bad types and brands of caps -including relatively obscure brands prone to failing due to ¨improvisations¨ in the electrolyte formula due to dumb industrial espionage.
Not a very ¨audio intensive¨ site, but perhaps useful. I hope that the info would be good to some of you. Cheers http://www.badcaps.net/forum/index.php? |

Thanks for sharing.
There must be a lot of bad caps around if these guys can maintain a full fledged forum about them. /Hugo |

Yes, Hugo, evidently...
Here in Argentina is very difficult to obtain good caps. Strange and suspicious brands abound -REC, Teapo, etc-; I believe that in a due time, somebody will import some caps branded ¨elcheapo¨, ¨ordin-air¨ or ¨BSCap¨..., made with seawater and tissuepaper... Sometimes, for mere luck, I have found something good: Nichicon, Matsushita... But there is no way to know about the date of making . It could be 1981... I found that site collecting info about one of those suspicious brands -REC, or TREC, or something alike-... Cheers |

If I need good caps at a reasonable price I buy at Farnell.
I have other vendors too but they only supply dubious brands. /Hugo |

I`m still reluctant to buy via Internet, but I suppose it´s time for a debut!
Mere luck is not a good way to obtain quality components; I like this hobby very much to leave it´s results to chance... I have read a lot of good comments about Farnell, so I´ll try them in the future. Thanks fot he tip. |
