Default Why my divx movies play ALOT quieter then MP3s do?

Hello, I am using SB Live Value as sound card and whenever I play movies, I need to crank up the volume on speakers to max to be even close to "acceptable lound" setting while watching movies. But when I play MP3 or windows commands, they are sugnificantly louder.......same goes for my laptop. How do I even this out?

Many thanks,

Phil

It's the same with DVD players as well, the original Dolby surround sound uses 6 tracks (5+1), in order to mix this down to only two tracks the levels have to be reduced, in case all the tracks are loud at the same time. This makes the resulting audio track much quieter.

That's right, dvd sound is always really low.

When you create a divx from a dvd, you should mix the 5.1 channels to stereo and then apply an effect that search the loudest part and then calculate a multiplicating coefficient for the entire audio band.

That way, the sound is louder and the loudest part is just below clipping.

I can't remember how this option is called.
