In a month or so I am going to SF taking some extra
days to shop around for audio and electronics. Any good place to visit?!?!?

Actually, now that I live in the Bay Area, I too would like to know where the good electronics stores are... Anyone?

Music Lovers' Audio in Berkeley is the best hi-fi shop around these parts, in my estimation.
As long as everyone is going to be hanging out in the Bay Area, you are all invited over to my place for an Aleph-X building party

Try HSC Electronic Supply, a back steet surplus shop in Santa Clara www.halted.com. It has bins full of OEM components, old tubes, salvaged instruments, used heatsinks. Bring a DMM as some customers tend to drop things back in the wrong bin sometimes. Some new stuff, some junk. You never know for sure what you will find. I always check it before placing an order with Digikey. Although the prices are not spectacularly low, you can buy just one of something. Kind of a wierd experience to go to the counter with your hands full of "stuff" and run up a bill of less than a dollar.

Alltronics used to have a retail store in South San Jose. You might call or email them and see if it's still open.

Oh, actually, I forgot something. There's an electronics swap meet which is held the second Saturday of each month from April to October. Location is Foothill College near Los Altos. They start around 6 A.M. and pretty much everyone is leaving by around 10:30 to 11:30. You'll also need $2 in quarters or dollar bills for the parking ticket machine there.

There is also a swap meet on the first Sunday of each month at 7:00AM as Las Positas College in Livermore.
