Hello,

I would make a relay based attenuator, controlled with microcontroler. But I'm wondering wich relay to use, normal or dual coil (bi-stable in french).
I think dual coil is better for noise and heat but is there a difference in life-time?

Oui, si le courant est relâché après avoir changé le relais de position. Sinon, ça fait du bruit dans les 2 positions.

Un relais "reed" durera beaucoup plus longtemps -- and is much faster as well.

Are there some disadvantages compared to normal single coil relays?
Ok, found some, magnetic fields around it can switch it. So it should be shielded also.

As for advantages, I found a lot of them : Longer life, sealed contacts, etc.

By searching a bit... Wet reeds are better I suppose?(Except for the fact that the difference is the mercury...)

They are pretty silent I think also. By looking at some, I found that the relays in my synth are reed relays, and they don't make noise at all.
