I am a coyote hunter, I am looking to build an electronic caller. It basicly is an amp with a speaker. It must be small, loud, weather proof & very clear. I will plug an mp3 player into it, that I have downloaded sounds on.I am not much into electronics, so, I have come to you folks for expert advice. can you help me build one???

Jim,

I think your best bet might be some kind of boombox with a swimming pool beach rating... seriously. An upholstery shop shop could make a padded rain-resistant cover/ bag for you as well.

Brian & Jim if you have good recipes post in the OFF TOPIC forum.

A "waterproof" boombox is a good idea...

I was just thinking of those "outdoor" speakers,that look like a rock...they're waterproof,and pre-disguised!

Or,I found a plastic cone speaker used as a 'siren' in a house alarm system. It was just a 5inch 15W plastic coned speaker..(and sounded like **** for music/etc.)

For an amp you could go with something like an LM386 chip, but they don't have much power.
Maybe somethng like a 12V TDA-chipamp,and a battery pack?

How big and heavy can it be?

I like the (rock) speakers idea, I was also thinking of wireless speaker. do they have amps built in? will the transmitter run on batteries? I seen some on ebay AR AW-811, do you guys know anything about them?

As for size; I think if I could keep it about the same as large flashlight or so that would be ideal.

What is a chipamp? I only need 20 or 30 watts( I think).
If it was wireless it would be better, I could put it out 50yds and the coyotes would not be looking at me, they would be looking at the speaker.
