Hello guys, new to forum and diy audio in general but have brrn bitten by bug, I just seen a passive pre amp that consists of a stepped attenuator and a lot of resistors. There was a link to the site but its all in chinese I thinks. Have fpound other kits but they start at $120 a kit Does anyone know of a site I can find them a little less pricey, Thanks Link to site is

you can buy a good rotator switch ( 12 steps )
then you put your own resistors in ( 12 resistors )
this makes lowest price

you could put a -20dB switch beside the stepped attenuator
so this will cover two different spans of volume ( 24 positions )

there are 24 positions switches to buy, but they cost a lot more

values for a 100 kOhm potentiometer will depend if you want
- linear characteristic - all resistors same value
- logarithmic characteristic - values are progressive, from lower resistors to higher

logarithmic is most often used in audio
this will make you hear same loudness difference for each step
for example -2.5 dB for each step
