Default HiFi Active crossover

What active crossover is best for HiFi use? I am going to split the subs from the main speakers at around 150 Hz.

Hi,
the two main choices are Butterworth and Linkwitz-Reilly.
L-R must be in even pole numbers i.e. 2pole, 4pole etc.
Some might recommend moving towards Bessel but these are less usual.

Most require some equalisation, have a read of ESP at for more info. http://sound.westhost.com

Hi

I use the excellent Behringer DC2496 digital xover which can be found at http://www.behringer.com.

It has all the slopes you could wish for and you can adjust them while the music is playing.

I use it in a 2 way active design with 10" Volt BM 2500.4 bass mid and 45" Newform Research ribbons driven by 4 Hypex UCD 400 modules!! The xover will go to 3 way stereo if you want

After much deliberation I've settled on crossing over at 1kHz with 12dB/octave Bessel Filters for both bass and treble. Sounds more natural to my ears

Check it out, it's much cheaper than the others such as BSS etc and the sound quality is great. Just bear in mind that all the ins and outs are balanced XLR's so be prepared to throw away all those nasty RCA's!!!

Have fun

Regards John

i use XLR cables from preamp to poweramps, so that wont be a problem. i will use a Hypex DS 4.0 for each sub. I have though about the Behringer x-over, dont think i´ll need the DCX2496 since i will use the passive x-over for the Seas Odin. I only want to have a high-pass for the Odin, and low-pass for the subs. Wont the 2-way crossover do the job just as well? http://www.behringer.com/CX2310/index.cfm?lang=ENG
The Hypex sub-amp only has RCA inputs. i guess i wont have any problems wiring from the balanced outputs of the behringer to the RCA input of the Hypex amp?

Pure analog :

The Best Active Crossover - Here!

I already built a medium/treble section at 1540 Hz.
I am looking for a rather independant listening position in a two speakers stereo system. This filter, whose idea may be due to Neville Thiele (see http://sound.westhost.com ), is great for that.
