Dirt cheap place for aluminum
I found this place on ebay:
speedy metals
I bought some bars and plates cut to length. They usually cut the bars 1/8 inch longer so the customer can finish them off, they are cut with a band saw, so pretty rough but a belt sander gets the job done or a mill or a miter saw ala Peter Daniel.
I also bought a 3/32 plate that was shear cut to exact specs a little scotch brite action and that baby was ready to go. I was told that thicker plates are cut on the band saw so they may be a little more problematic to finish off.
All in all a nice place for your little aluminum needs. I spent something ridicolous like 15$ for 15 ft of 1X3/8 6061 bar cut in 12 pieces and a 10x10x3/32 plate.

It's under eBay Stores.

Thanks grataku! Now, what to buy first... :scratch2:

Joel 29th October 2002 01:20 PM isn't bad either. I got a few brass plates from them for amp projects.

Thanks for the metal mart link, it's just what I have been wanting. Couldn't find anything good at the local Grainger.

UK ally?

Just to jump on the bandwagon:
Apart from RS and Farnell, who's range is limited, does anyone know any UK suppliers?
