Without specialist knowledge I'm trying to fix an old Marantz PM 66 KI amplifier.
It's missing two capacitors value 12000 uF, 56V. 1. Can anyone advise me on where to purchase these? 2. And does it matter what type they are or is it the values that are the most important aspect. Thanks Alan |

Hi,
establish the footprint and pin pitch the caps MUST fit. Check the temperature rating (common ones are 70, 80 and 105degC.) 12mF is a slightly unusual value but is available. 56V is also slightly unusual. Combined, these two values, probably mean that only a few maunufacturers make an identical product. Marantz probably do this to dissuade DIYers and non franchised repairers from repairing their products. Try to find a cap with near 12mF and a voltage rating = or slightly above 56V, that also meet the first physical requirements. 63Vdc is perfectly OK. Any higher voltage eg. 75V or 80V may make the package too large to fit the space available.

Please check 15.000 uF 63 V of various manufacturers. When they fit physically ( check diameter, height and distance between the lead wires ) they will be an excellent replacement.
Elna LP5 series are OK if you can find them.
