Default s/pdif, fixed or floating

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, I'm just trying to find out if s/pdif uses fixed point or floating point? I can't seem to find the answer

I would create a new thread in the digital forum or find one that seems related in asking this question. I don't know the answer either, and never thought about it, I think it is a good one though.
