Default capacitance help please- what have I missed

Folks,

would appreciate some caaaaaaaaapacitance help.

I've been looking for 100V electro's @ 10,000UF
but they don't appear to come cheap (not in NZ anyway)

From one of the larger global electronics suppliers I can source
Panasonic
EEGBA2A103FEM (stud terminals)
10000UF 100V
105°C
+/- 20%
2000h
ripple @ 100Hz:7.32A
ripple @ 10kHz:8.42A
ESR 100Hz 0.0295
Approx $80 USD each

Or from one of the USA online suppliers
Panasonic
ECET2AA822FA (solder terminals)
8200uF 100V
105°C
+/- 20%
3000h
ripple @ 120Hz:5.15A
ripple @ 10kHz:5.92A
ESR 120Hz 0.030
Approx $12 USD each + additional freight charges

Am I missng something critial here?
apart from the extra space requirements and solder terminations
Can I not use 2 X 8200?
Gain 6000 odd mic
1000 hours
get a reasonable increase in ripple current capablity?
effectively half the ESR?
and probaly save myself 45+ USD per cap (set)

Just sounds too good to be true
Please someone ............. whats the down side?
what has the simple lackey missed?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks
Tony

Hi,
I would go for the cheap ones in parallel.
Bypass with both film and ceramic.

What are you powering?
I ask because 10mF seems a bit light. Although not all will agree with me, I recommend 2mF per Apk of output current.

The EEG's that I can find in Digikey are very much less expensive than the price quote you got, with very similar specs; something anomalous there. I would certainly go with the ECET series. The increased life is worth having, as it is rated for extreme conditions, and will translate into quite a bit longer service life under normal usage.

I'd also suspect that the ECET's are now manufactured in much higher volumes, because the are more easily used by manufactures, as they can be wavesoldered

Thanks Guys,
I had hoped I was making the right decision.

Andrew
It's a pretty basic PS for a mosfet power amp (AEM6000).
The specs calls for 20,000 uF a side, and while not the most substancial PS - by all accounts it does the job as intended.
I'm not planning to use it for bottom end, and so think 4 of the 8,200 's should be enough. (if not the biggest cost if I use the ECET's is space and I can always add a few more if I'm not happy)

Curmudgeon,
I agree with you on all points, but for the life of me couldn't think of a justification for the price variation.

Appreciate your help.
