2SJ79, 2SK216 substitutes

Hi - guys, does anyone knows the proper substitute for the 2sj79 and 2sk216 --- irf610 and irf9610 doesn't seem to be just right

Substituting a lateral MOS-FET (the types you mentioned are laterals) with a vertical is not that simple in many cases, and it's not a drop in.
The vertical IRF's need higher gate-source voltage to turn on, and they have substancially higher Cgd.
And I believe Charles Hansen would point out that the laterals do sound better...

Also, if I recall correctly, the pinout is different...

What do you need to build or repair? A schematic would be useful to help.
If you do not need the high dissipation and voltage rating of the 2S.... types, you could try to use e.g. the small ZVN3310 / ZVP3310 from Zetex. They have comparable Cgd and transconductance, and gate threshold voltage is also lower than the IRF's.

Why substitutes ? 2SJ79 and 2SK216 remain an actual product with a good distribution.

Toshiba's 2SJ313 and 2SK2013 are so TO220 case (25W) with small Ciss, Crss. But pinout is as different as IRF.

thanks for replyes.... i can't find them in local stores in my country (RS, Burklin, Digikey also don't have them).... Farnell has them but I have a minimum order of 50Euro's.... so it is a problem - if I can find them somwhere I would by them on reasonable terms..... suggestions....?

sch is like in post 14 or 16 of this thread - something like this with right parts...... (sch's are not completely checked - especially sch in post 14)

The BUZ900 (N-ch) and BUZ905 (P-ch) are lateral power FETs for audio.

The Magnatek website has the data, and they are available from RS-components in the UK (But not from Farnell as far as I know).

i looked in the data's for buz900/905...... they are not really suitable to replace 2sj79 and 2sk216----capacitances are to high - almost as with irf's
